The Dallas Mavericks have secured the signing of Kyrie Irving after months of rumors and speculation. The point guard played only 20 games with his new team after being traded from the Brooklyn Nets, posting an 8-12 record.

A lot was said about the fit between Irving and Luka Doncic, but the Mavs never doubted they wanted to keep the 2016 NBA champion on the roster. Now, the deal is done, with Shams Charania reporting that Irving is getting a three-year, $126 million contract

“Free agent Kyrie Irving has agreed to a three-year, $126 million contract to return to the Dallas Mavericks, with a player option in the third season, @TheAthletic @Stadium learned.”

Considering all the things said about Irving’s free agency, the quickness of this signing raised some eyebrows around the league. Plenty of fans reacted to this deal on social media, sharing a variety of opinions.

Mavericks fans were happy, of course.

Somebody questioned why they did this if they missed the playoffs last season.

Two fans predicted that Irving is requesting a trade next year.

Another one pointed out that all the meetings and rumors involving other teams were just a tactic from Irving.

Somebody wished Luka Doncic ‘good luck’ for sharing touches with Irving.

One fan was very optimistic and claimed the Mavericks will win the championship next year.

This is an interesting situation for the Mavericks and Irving. As expected, his decision sparked a lot of reactions. From people celebrating to others questioning whether he’ll be successful with Doncic. The Mavericks didn’t look like a winning team last season, and the fit between the two guards had a lot to do with that.

The front office is reportedly ready to back them up and bring the best players to help them lift their level, but we have to sit and wait for how that situation unfolds.

Kyrie Irving Was Reportedly Set To Meet With A Host Of Teams

Before making this decision, Irving was mentioned in plenty of rumors, including a move to the Houston Rockets. The Phoenix Suns were mentioned among his potential destinations, just like the Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers

Now, Irving is staying put in Dallas, set to build something good with Luka Doncic, trying to compete for the NBA championship.
