The Kyrie Irving saga is set to continue in the 2023 NBA free agency. The star point guard is unlikely to have made a decision as soon as free agency opens, but he’s ready to meet some teams to study his options for this year.
Kyrie will have a busy Friday, as he’s reportedly scheduled to meet a host of NBA teams. According to Bill Reiter of CBS Sports, the 2016 NBA champion will meet with the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers. Moreover, he’ll meet with the Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, Miami Heat, and Houston Rockets.
“Sources tell @CBSSports that on top of Dallas and Phoenix, Kyrie Irving will meet today with Miami, Houston, the Lakers and the Clippers. Meetings will be in Los Angeles and, in a few cases, remote.”

Irving reportedly didn’t have a big market coming into free agency, but things appear to have changed in recent hours. The point guard is a hot asset entering the open market, and many will be ready to make a compelling offer to Irving.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been following him for a while now, and this appears to be their best shot to acquire Irving’s services. LeBron James reportedly wants to reunite with Irving, but he doesn’t plan to join the Dallas Mavericks.
As for the Clippers, they’ve been linked with a move for James Harden recently, but with Irving available, adding the Beard shouldn’t be that necessary for them. They still have Kawhi Leonard and Paul George on the roster, and adding a dynamic scorer like Kyrie would be huge for them.
He could also join the Philadelphia 76ers, but that meeting isn’t taking place today.
Phoenix Suns Are Still In The Picture For Irving
Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns are still mentioned among Irving’s sweepstakes. The Arizonians already have four max players on the roster, and adding Irving would mean they’d need to get rid of one of them.
Deandre Ayton appears to be the name that would leave to make room for Irving, but a recent report claims that moving Devin Booker isn’t off the table for the Suns. That’s unthinkable right now, but the Suns have made a couple of big decisions so far, and parting with Booker would be wild but still likely.
