Shaquille O’Neal Revealed His Dating Rules For His Kids: “My Sons Can Date When They’re 18, And My Daughters Can Date When They’re 24”

NBA fans have become quite familiar with Shaquille O’Neal‘s mannerisms now, the Big Diesel has a unique personality and some wild ideas.

Nothing is as interesting as the rules he revealed he has for his children on the Ellen DeGeneres show in 2018. O’Neal spoke about when his children would be allowed to be in relationships.

“Well, my sons can date when they’re 18 and my daughters can date when they’re 24,” O’Neal said. When Ellen pointed out that wasn’t fair, he said, “Well you’re right, it’s not fair, but my daughters are much smarter than my boys and I want them to always be focused. And I want them to realize, ‘Hey, you have to be happy within yourself, you don’t really need anybody to make you happy. You can do your own thing.”

Ellen then asked what would happen if one of them broke the rule and got a boyfriend, and Shaq hilariously responded, saying, “I’m waiting for that. Imma torture him.”

“First thing I have to let the guy know is, all the little things that you think you doing, I invented. And all the little things, like you going to the movies and you start to do stuff like that, I did all that stuff. So I need to let him know that I know what he’s thinking. Just really torture him. Torture him bad.”

Shaquille O’Neal has three daughters, Taahirah with former girlfriend Arnetta Yardborough and Amirah and Me’arah with ex-wife Shaunie Henderson. When he gave this interview in 2018, none were over the age of 24, Taahirah was 22, Amirah was 17 and Me’arah was 12.

Taahirah graduated magna cum laude from Oglethorpe University in 2019, while Amirah plays college basketball at Shaq’s alma mater LSU. According to his rules, Taahirah is old enough to date now, but the other two still have to wait. But he also gave them some interesting advice about their dating life.

Shaquille O’Neal Told His Daughters To Avoid Guys Like Him

Shaquille O’Neal has always been cognizant of the things he has gotten wrong. And one of those was his admitted mistakes with women. That’s why he once told his daughters that they shouldn’t date guys like him.

“I tell my daughters I wasn’t nothing,” Shaq said. “I was not nothing. So, you need to watch out. I was terrible. I was the worse ever. So, I can spot them out because I went into worse.”

Having Shaquille O’Neal as a father sounds like an interesting experience, but he has provided his children with love, care, and comfort. The Big Diesel may have some ideas about what they can and can’t do, but there is no doubt that he loves his children dearly.
