The Los Angeles Lakers did an impressive job of revamping their roster midseason during the 2022-23 campaign, but it wasn’t enough to win them the championship.

The team has serious decisions to make when it comes to building around LeBron James and Anthony Davis. And one of the proposed moves for them is acquiring Chris Paul, who the Phoenix Suns seemingly want to move on from.

Surprisingly, Lakers fans on Reddit voted that they would prefer having Dennis Schroder on the team over Chris Paul. There was a poll that received over 2,000 votes, and 55% of Lakers fans said that they would choose Schroder over Paul.

There were a lot of reasons that fans gave in the replies as to why they don’t want Paul. One fan explained that it was simply a matter of availability and that Schroder would be a more reliable pick than Paul.

Chris Paul has had issues with teammates in the past, notably co-star Blake Griffin when he was on the Los Angeles Clippers. And a fan mentioned that to say he wouldn’t be a good fit.

Chris Paul is 38 years old and nearing the end of his career. However, his greatness means he will still command a hefty sum even if the Suns buy him out and he negotiates a new contract. This fan doesn’t think it’s likely.

Paul would be a valuable addition to any team that needs a solid player for 20-25 minutes and a mentor in the locker room. One fan thinks that it’s not enough for the Lakers to get him for those things.

An NBA executive claimed that Paul to the Lakers seems like a very likely outcome, and Paul was even seen working out in what looked like the team’s colors. But the fans are not too enthused by the idea, seemingly preferring to keep Dennis Schroder.

How Do Chris Paul And Dennis Schroder Compare In Terms Of Productivity?

There are always many intangible reasons to do or not do something. But what matters more are the facts. Chris Paul played 59 games last season compared to Schroder’s 65, but the gap in availability doesn’t seem that big. Paul missed games in the playoffs, though, something that is a red flag.

Chris Paul averaged 13.9 points and 8.9 assists, while Schroder averaged 12.6 points and 4.5 assists. Paul comes out in front easily by that metric, but Schroder was a better defender during the season. There is a lot to look at and consider for the Lakers, but it all comes down to what kind of money they can get Paul for. If it’s a minimum, the move is a no-brainer, no matter what the fans think.
