Ja Morant has become quite the controversial figure in the NBA over the last year. Two separate incidents where Morant has flashed a gun on Instagram Live have landed him in big trouble, causing NBA commissioner Adam Silver to intervene, and criticize Morant for his actions.

Comedian Karlous Miller was not happy about Adam Silver criticizing Ja Morant. During an interview on The Breakfast Club, Miller said: “Adam Silver can’t even hoop; why is he the commissioner?”

“I’m tired of listening to old white men who don’t know what they talking about,” He added. “He ain’t never dunked on nobody; he don’t live in Memphis, he knows you can’t walk around Memphis without a gun. Memphis is one of the realest cities in the world.”

Miller, as a comedian, was able to elicit some laughs from host Charlamagne Tha God, but his point is not entirely valid. Much like his predecessor, David Stern, Adam Silver is not a former player but understands the business and operations aspect of the NBA very well. While he isn’t as strict as Stern, he does run the NBA well enough to grow it.

What Will Ja Morant’s Punishment Be?

Ja Morant’s punishment has not been made clear as of yet. While Adam Silver has spoken about the incident and promised heavy repercussions, there is no word on the extent of his punishment.

Many are expecting a lengthy ban come the start of next season, among other requirements. Morant averaged 26.2 points, 8.1 assists, and 5.9 rebounds last season, so the Grizzlies will definitely miss his presence on the court.

One anonymous NBA GM spoke about how former NBA head coach Mark Jackson could have a positive influence on Ja Morant and Zion Williamson, the two stars of the 2019 NBA Draft class that have found themselves embroiled in controversy.

Ja Morant is one of the most talented players in the league, but his antics off the court could become a detriment to him, his team, his fans, and the NBA as a whole.
