Jerry West Gets Real On Scottie Pippen’s Beef With Michael Jordan

Jerry West had an interesting opinion about Scottie Pippen's beef with Michael Jordan.

The Chicago Bulls of the 1990s are widely viewed as the best dynasty in the history of the NBA, winning six championships while three-peating twice. The dynasty’s figurehead was obviously Michael Jordan, but his co-star Scottie Pippen played a huge role in it as well.

Even though Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen have won multiple championships together, it seems as though their relationship has fractured. Pippen has taken multiple jabs at Jordan over the last year, even calling Jordan a “horrible” player at one point. Jerry West was the latest person to speak on their current situation, noting that players who win championships usually have “special” relationships, and added that he doesn’t understand how that fell apart.

“Well, obviously I know Michael well, but I don’t know Scottie that well, I don’t. But he’s always been very pleasant and very nice to me. And as I say, I admired him tremendously as a player. He got better every year. He wasn’t, somebody that just fell off a cliff. He was a really good player and whatever happens in relationships and when, particularly if you look at a team and you would think that those guys like that would have the most special relationship in the world. I just haven’t understood that.” (1:13:02)

Paul George then suggested that Scottie Pippen should call Michael Jordan and settle their beef. However, Jerry West suggested that Jordan wouldn’t accept Pippen’s call if that route was taken.

“Maybe somebody wouldn’t accept the call,” said West.

There is no doubt that it is disappointing to see Scottie Pippen consistently disparage Michael Jordan through the media. The situation doesn’t seem likely to change anytime soon, as Pippen previously claimed that he wouldn’t mend his relationship with Jordan due to the latter’s ego. Hopefully though, at one point, the two can make peace with one another.

Scottie Pippen Thinks The Bulls Could Have Won Even More If The Team Wasn’t Broken Up

After the Chicago Bulls’ 1998 championship run, Michael Jordan retired, while Scottie Pippen ended up getting traded to the Houston Rockets. However, many believe that they had the potential to win more championships, with Pippen claiming that they could have won two or three more.

“Had MJ not left, we probably could’ve won 2-3 more titles. Had the Bulls not broken our team up at the end, we could’ve probably earned one more title, at least.”

It is clear that the Chicago Bulls had the talent to potentially continue their dynasty further. However, it is clear that that was not to be, and it will be one of the greatest “what ifs” in NBA history.
