Nikola Jokic has long been considered one of the smartest players in the NBA. Jokic is deceptively accurate for a player his size, with many considering him the best passing big man in NBA history. And one former NBA player believes Jokic is competing with Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra.

Jamal Crawford spoke about Nikola Jokic after the game, and how smart he is. Crawford noted that Jokic seems to be locked in a battle of wits, focusing more on outplaying Erik Spoelstra rather than the Miami Heat players. Crawford was impressed with the way Jokic pulled the strings.

“He’s so good, he’s not even playing against the Miami Heat players. He’s playing against [Erik] Spoelstra. His mind is playing against Spoelstra. ‘Oh, you wanna do that, I have a counter for that. He’s playing a whole different game.”

(From 13:02 onwards)

Jokic is incredibly smart and keeps an eye on his own team, and more importantly, the opposition, at all times. So he would be watching with a keen eye to try and see what kind of plays and schemes Erik Spoelstra is trying to get his players to adhere to, and what he needs to do to try and break their flow.

Jokic Ready To Become The Next NBA Great

Nikola Jokic didn’t have the best game against the Heat. Despite having 23 points and 12 rebounds, it was a surprisingly slow night for the Joker on the assist front, racking up only 4 assists. Jokic is one of, if not the best passer in the NBA today, so for him to only have 4 assists is definitely an anomaly.

Jokic and the Nuggets played very well, with the role players stepping up. Jokic had a hilarious reaction to Bruce Brown’s step-back three, noting that he wanted to punch him when he took the shot. The Nuggets are flying high and could wrap up the NBA Finals in Game 5 back home in Denver.
