The Houston Rockets are reportedly one of the teams linked to former Memphis Grizzlies star Dillon Brooks.
Per Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, “Dillons Brooks, last seen as Memphis’ starting small forward, is another Rockets target, sources told Yahoo Sports, and appears to be a more realistic candidate to join Houston this summer.”
Going by the analyst’s thoughts, it appears Houston will offer Brooks a key role as they look to rebuild and establish a solid roster ahead of the 2023-24 season. This development comes amid rumors of James Harden’s reunion with the franchise.
While there hasn’t been much set in stone on that front, Brooks will certainly be a welcome addition to the side. He averaged 14.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 73 games for the Grizzlies this season.
The forward was the first domino to fall after the Grizzlies’ first-round exit against the Los Angeles Lakers in the playoffs. Brooks’ drama on and off the court pretty much played a part in his murky exit from Memphis, but it does appear that there are teams eager to add his services.
The Rockets Have Fred VanVleet On Their Radar As Well
Should James Harden decide to run it back with the Philadelphia 76ers for one more season, then the Rockets are likely to target Toronto Raptors star Fred VanVleet.
Fischer’s report said, “Should Harden ultimately stick with the 76ers, Raptors point guard Fred VanVleet has often been linked to Houston as a secondary option who could perhaps slot into the team’s lead ball-handling role.”
VanVleet averaged 19.3 PPG, 4.1 RPG, and 7.2 APG for the Raptors this season, although they failed to make the playoffs. He is clearly an added firepower to any team.
The Lakers are the other interested parties in VanVleet after reports earlier suggested the team could try and use D’Angelo Russell in a sign-and-trade. It remains to be seen where the prolific scorer ends up in free agency.
