Jaylen Brown could make a whopping $290 million if he inks a supermax contract with the Boston Celtics ahead of the 2023-24 season.

The breakdown of the five-year deal that runs through the 2028-29 season is as follows:

2024-25: $50,050,000

2025-26: $54,054,000

2026-27: $58,058,000

2027-28: $62,062,000

2028-29: $66,066,000

Brown averaged 26.6 points per game and made the All-NBA Second-Team, which made him eligible for a supermax extension offer from the Celtics. Per Yossi Gozlan (via HoopsHype):

“He will be eligible to extend with the Celtics during the 2023 offseason for up to five years, projected at $285.6 million. It would give him a starting salary of $49.2 million and pay him $65 million in his age 32 season.” Conversely, he could wait until the 2024 offseason and potentially sign with a new franchise as an unrestricted free agent

Boston and Brown will have some thinking to do ahead of the next season. With the duo of Brown and Jayson Tatum making the NBA Finals and the Conference Finals in two years, the Celtics will be tempted not to split up the duo, who are regarded as the best pair in the league at present.

An NBA GM Believes Jaylen Brown Would Be Crazy To Reject A Supermax Contract

An Eastern Conference GM weighed in on Brown’s contract situation with the Celtics, saying it would be crazy on Brown’s part to reject the supermax deal.

“Well, he would be crazy to pass on what Boston can give him,” one Eastern Conference GM said per Sean Deveney of Heavy Sports. “They will have to go all in and he is going to have to take it. You can’t turn down what is going to wind up being $60 million a year. Maybe he’s happy in Boston, maybe not, but if you’re Jaylen Brown and you have the opportunity to be the highest-paid player in the league, you’re damn right you take it.”

While the money is plush, there have also been reports that Brown isn’t keen on staying in Boston, and that, in the end, might be the decisive factor. Only time will tell if he suits up for the Celtics next season.
