D’Angelo Russell Could Join The Raptors Next Season, Says NBA Analyst

Ahead of the upcoming season, one of Bleacher Report's analysts opined that D'Angelo Russell could join the Raptors.

Los Angeles Lakers point guard D’Angelo Russell might be on his way to the Toronto Raptors, according to analysts.

Per Bleacher Report’s staff, Russell could fit in for the Raptors if Fred VanVleet decides to leave during free agency.

“Ideally, the Toronto Raptors will bring back opt-out candidate Fred VanVleet for less than $30 million per season on a new deal,” the site detailed. “But if he expresses a desire to change venues, Toronto could work out a rare double sign-and-trade with the Los Angeles Lakers to land FVV’s replacement.”

Further adding: “D’Angelo Russell has been part of such an exchange before when he came to the Golden State Warriors in a double S-and-T for Kevin Durant. If all parties involved agree and find ways to make the money work, Russell could wind up in Toronto, giving the Raptors the conventional pick-and-roll operator they’ve long lacked.”

There has been a lot of uncertainty regarding Russell’s future in LA. While the Lakers can sign the guard for a two-year, $67.5 million contract, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin remarked that the team wasn’t keen to put that deal on paper.

LeBron James Isn’t Reportedly A Fan Of D’Angelo Russell

Earlier this month, reports of LeBron James reportedly not fond of Russell and his fit with him and the side did the rounds.

“I hate to say one playoff series can change a franchise’s whole outlook on a guy because that just does not happen, but it is happening with some of the people in that building, maybe most significantly, with LeBron,” the Western Conference executive said, according to Heavy Sports. “Is this a guy they want to invest in? Does LeBron want him back — there is talk that he is not Russell’s biggest fan.”

While he was impressive for the Lakers during the regular season, Russell was a disappointment in the playoffs averaging just 6.3 PPG, 2.0 RPG, and 3.5 APG. And as much as he wants to be a Laker in the upcoming season, chances are he might find a new home.
