LeBron James’ longevity has always been applauded by fans. James is aging like a fine wine and seems to be only getting better with age.

A perfect example of it is to do a simple comparison between the 28-year-old LeBron James from the 2012-13 NBA season and the 38-year-old version of the King from the 2022-23 NBA season.

Starting things off with the regular season, 2012-13 LeBron James averaged 26.8 PPG, 8.0 RPG, 7.3 APG, 1.7 SPG, and 0.9 BPG while shooting 56.5% from the field and 40.6% from downtown. James was awarded the NBA MVP for his phenomenal season.

On top of that, LeBron led the Miami Heat to an NBA Championship, where he also won the Finals MVP. It was a near-perfect season by the King.

Coming to 2022-23 LeBron James, he averaged 28.9 PPG, 8.3 RPG, 6.8 APG, 0.9 SPG, and 0.6 BPG while shooting 50.0% from the field and 32.1% from the three-point line. Sure, James’ stats were slightly better than in 2013, but he couldn’t win the NBA Championship.

In fact, the Los Angeles Lakers lost 0-4 in the Western Conference Finals. At the end of the day, James is still a phenomenal player, but certainly not an overall better than his 2013 version.

LeBron James Could Retire This Summer

LeBron James is currently 38 years old. He just finished the 20th season of his NBA career. In those 20 years, LeBron has remained one of the best players in the league.

But getting swept in the Conference Finals during the twilight years of his career was seemingly too much for James. He pondered about his future in the NBA after the Game 4 loss.

“I got a lot to think about. … Just personally, with me moving forward with the game of basketball, I got a lot to think about.”

It came as a shock to most fans around the NBA. James is yet to give a concrete statement about his future in the league, but the consensus around the league is that the King will not retire this summer.

Instead, they believe James either wants to force a trade out of the Lakers or wants the organization to bring another superstar to the team in the upcoming offseason.
