The Eastern Conference Finals haven’t exactly gone to plan so far for the Boston Celtics and frustrations are reaching a boiling point.
In the third quarter of Game 3, Marcus Smart nearly hit Miami Heat forward Caleb Martin and had some words for him as well, which led to Jimmy Butler firing back.
Marcus Smart: “We beat y’all last year, we good. Stop talking the whole f***ing game”.
Jimmy Butler: “That’s some bulls***. They need help, I’m telling you they’re buns. They gonna get out.”

The Celtics certainly need some help at the moment after the Heat crushed them 128-102 in Game 3 to take a 3-0 lead. There would be a lot of frustration in their camp at the moment, especially as they were heavy favorites prior to the series. In fact, ESPN only gave the Heat a 3% chance to advance to the NBA Finals, and while that may have been too low, the majority definitely didn’t pick them to win.
Butler has been key to their success, and while he led the way in Games 1 and 2, he took a backseat in this one, finishing with 16 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals as his teammates shined. Martin, Gabe Vincent, and Duncan Robinson combined for 69 points as they ensured the Celtics never stood a chance.
The Celtics Put In An Embarrassing Performance
For a team that was entering a must-win game, the Celtics certainly didn’t play with the sense of urgency that you’d expect from them. Their two stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown were terrible as they combined for just 26 points on 12-35 shooting from the field. Performances like that in what was the biggest game of the season are simply unacceptable.
Brown called the result embarrassing, and that’s exactly what it was. Tatum, meanwhile, called for his team to have some pride and bounce back in the next game. If we do see another performance along these lines in Game 4 from the Celtics, then some difficult questions might have to be asked in the offseason.
