Carmelo Anthony headlined NBA news on Monday by announcing his retirement from basketball, and among the flurry of tributes that flowed in, Kevin Durant’s tribute was rich and hilarious at the same time.

Durant took to Instagram to share a series of images on the stories of his battles with Melo — one that included two of them during the Olympics, and a couple from their skirmishes in the NBA, which he labeled as ‘foul’ and ‘offensive foul’. The final one was a screenshot of Melo’s comment on KD’s Facebook Post.

The humor aside, there is no doubt that Durant has played alongside one of the most prolific scorers in the NBA. Melo has been in the league longer than Durant, with his decorated career spanning 19 years. And the posts show nothing but love from one player to another who he grew up watching.

The ten-time All-Star was unsigned this season after he was part of the Los Angeles Lakers during their woeful 33-49 run. He averaged 13.3 points during his time with the Purple and Gold.

Kevin Durant Believed Carmelo Anthony Had Enough Left In The Tank To Contribute

Earlier this season, Durant was asked about Melo’s future in the NBA, which saw him give a glowing answer. “I think he has the talent to play in our league,” the former NBA champion told Bally Sports.

According to NBA insider Ian Begley, Durant was looking to add Melo to the Phoenix Suns roster. “At at least one point in his tenure in Brooklyn, Kevin Durant saw [Carmelo Anthony] as a great roster addition. With Durant in Phoenix, that’s something I’d keep an eye on.”

Now, the focus for Melo will be life after retirement. But as far as his relationship with Durant goes, they seem to have a great bond if their time on the floor together was fairly minimal.
