Former NBA Forward Says Ja Morant Should Be Suspended For All Of Next Season

Chandler Parsons calls for season-long suspension for Ja Morant.

After flashing a gun on Instagram Live during the season, the backlash was so bad that many fans were sure that Morant would never let himself get caught in that situation again. And yet, even after a suspension, multiple apologies, and potentially millions of dollars, Morant did it again.

This time, it wasn’t Ja himself recording the video, but you could see him holding up a pistol and dancing to the music at some point as the footage was being recorded. It’s a truly baffling move from Morant, and now all that’s left to do is wait for the Grizzlies  (or the NBA league office) to respond. If you ask former NBA swingman Chandler Parsons, he believes this stunt should cost Morant the entirety of next season.

Morant didn’t hurt or threaten anybody with the weapon (at least, not on this occasion), but it’s still a bad look for a guy who said he’d try to do better after being caught slipping up back in March. Remember, as one of the top NBA athletes, his actions are always under the spotlight, and he represents more than himself when he chooses to act recklessly for the cameras.

A season-long suspension is probably too much for Ja’s crimes, but he should definitely face some kind of penalty for making such an awful mistake twice in the span of a few months. Clearly, he didn’t learn his lesson the first time.

Ja Morant Has Cost Himself Millions Over Social Media Scandals

Morant already cost himself millions by not making the All-NBA team (no doubt because of his mid-season suspension), but he could cost himself even more now if he has to pay a fine or even if he gets dropped by one of his major brands.

Of course, this all has an impact on the Grizzlies as well, who now have to deal with another distraction instead of focusing on the offseason plans.

“I’ve just got to be better with my decision-making,” Morant said. “That’s pretty much it. Off-the-court issues affected us as an organization pretty much. Just [need] more discipline.”

Obviously, Ja isn’t quite where he needs to be in terms of his maturity level, and that’s something the Grizzlies need to work out if they want to take the next step with him as the centerpiece.

For now, though, they just have to hope and pray that the punishment is lenient for Ja and that the NBA allows the Grizzlies to handle this issue internally.
