The 2022-23 NBA season hasn’t ended for the Philadelphia 76ers, and they’re already hearing rumors about their immediate future.

The Sixers are currently trying to win their second-round series against the Boston Celtics, and if that doesn’t happen, a lot could change within the organization. Not only they’re risking losing James Harden in free agency, but they could see Joel Embiid demanding a trade away.

“There have been whispers that Joel Embiid could want out of Philadelphia if free-agent-to-be James Harden goes back to the Rockets as has been rumored,” Zach Braziller of The New York Post writes.

The report adds that in the case Embiid wants out, he’d still have three years left in his contract, which gives leverage to the Sixers.

“But Embiid — who was once repped by Knicks president Leon Rose — is under contract for three more seasons.”

Seeing how well he’s played in the past couple of seasons and how much love Embiid has for Philly, it would be shocking to see him asking for a trade. However, after many years of trying to win without any success, if the team doesn’t get at least to the Eastern Conference Finals this season, perhaps the best move for Embiid would be to leave the Sixers.

They have a big job today as the Boston Celtics wait for them at TD Garden. The general thought around the league is that if the Sixers can’t win today, James Harden will leave the organization.

Stephen A. Smith even claimed that if they can’t advance further than the second round, Harden, Doc Rivers, and Daryl Morey are at risk of losing their jobs. This is much more than one game for Philly, and they’re well aware of that.

James Harden Has Been On The Houston Rockets’ Radar

While the playoffs are still developing, rumors don’t stop coming about Harden. The Houston Rockets are ready to start a new era now that Ime Udoka is their new head coach.

According to recent reports, the Texans are interested in bringing in Harden, Jaylen Brown, or Khris Middleton. They have some interesting options in their carpet, but time will tell how this whole situation ends.

As for now, Harden will have to bring his A-game once again if the Sixers plan to beat the Celtics at home in a win-or-go-home situation.
