We have gotten past the point now where Anthony Edwards should be viewed as one of the best young two guards in the NBA, for the simple reason that he should now be regarded as just one of the best two guards, period.
Edwards won’t be satisfied with just being the best shooting guard in the league, though, as he wants to be the best ever at that position and is chasing Michael Jordan.
“I’m chasing my boy M.J., for sure,” Edwards said via Star Tribune. “It’ll be hard, but I’m chasing him.”
Apparently, this has always been the goal for Edwards, who told his player development coach Chris Hines that he wanted to be the best shooting guard ever when he was a rookie. If there is one thing we know for sure about Edwards by now, is that he is supremely confident in his own abilities, so his saying this isn’t really a shocker.
The 2022-23 season was a great one on an individual level for Edwards, as he became an All-Star for the first time and averaged 24.6 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 4.4 APG, and 1.6 SPG. Against the top-seeded Denver Nuggets in the playoffs, he averaged 31.6 PPG to once again show the basketball world that he has well and truly arrived.
Patrick Beverley Said Anthony Edwards Can Be The Next Michael Jordan
This is hardly the first time Edwards and Jordan have been mentioned in the same sentence, as Patrick Beverley said last month that Ant can be the next MJ. Beverley got to witness first-hand just how good Edwards is when they were teammates, and the youngster left quite an impression on him.
Edwards certainly has all the tools you need to be a very special player in the league for a very long time, but becoming the next Jordan or even surpassing him is a very difficult task. There is no harm in aiming that high, though, and if he ends up being anywhere near as good as Jordan, the Minnesota Timberwolves will finally have a few championships to their name.
