The Minnesota Timberwolves were in a position to suffer one of the most embarrassing losses in recent playoff history, but Anthony Edwards ensured it wouldn’t happen.

He scored 43 points and hit a huge three-pointer in overtime to help the Twolves secure a 114-108 win over the Denver Nuggets. His former teammate Patrick Beverley was reacting to the game, and he had some high praise for him.

“I was expecting people to call me crazy, and I told them, he could be the next Michael Jordan,” Beverley said.

While it is unlikely that Edwards will be the next Michael Jordan, there is no doubt that he has all the tools to be something truly special. This performance in Game 4 was his fifth 30-point game in the playoffs, and he passed Kobe Bryant for the second-most such games by players aged 21 or younger. Only LeBron James has more of them, and that is some company to be a part of.

Edwards also became an All-Star for the first time this season, and the sky is the limit for him. Provided he stays healthy and continues to work on his game diligently, he will, in all likelihood, be one of the best players in the league in a few years.

Anthony Edwards Had Promised The Series Wasn’t Over After Game 3

Once the Timberwolves fell down 3-0 after their loss in Game 3, it was hard to have any kind of optimism about their prospects for Game 4. Edwards, however, promised that it wasn’t done yet, and he himself ensured it wasn’t. It was a truly special performance, and it is incredible that someone so young can carry his team the way he did.

It is now going to take another ridiculous performance from Edwards if the Timberwolves are to somehow win Game 5. It will also help if Karl-Anthony Towns starts playing better, as he is averaging just 16.3 PPG on 43.4% shooting from the field so far. KAT has been a major disappointment so far, but he can somewhat make amends for it if he balls out in Denver.
