It took a couple more years than he’d ideally have liked, but Joel Embiid finally got his hands on that MVP trophy on Friday night.
During a wonderful acceptance speech, Embiid called for his son Arthur to join him and when he did, the Philadelphia 76ers big man got visibly emotional.

“Honestly, he’s the main reason why I’m really here,” Embiid said of his son. “Becoming a father changed my whole life. I just wanted to show him a good example and I’m glad he’s here with us.”
Arthur is named after Embiid’s brother who passed away in 2014 in a car accident. His passing led to the big man contemplating retirement right after he was drafted, but he carried on and would have certainly made his brother very proud. To finally get that MVP, Embiid led the league in scoring for the second season in a row at 33.1 PPG while also averaging 10.2 RPG, 4.2 APG, 1.0 SPG, and 1.7 BPG. He led the Sixers to a 54-28 record in what was a phenomenal campaign for the big man.
Can Embiid Help The Sixers Turn Things Around Against The Celtics?
The Sixers stunned the Boston Celtics in Game 1 without Embiid, but it has been all downhill since then. The Celtics blew them out in Game 2 even with Embiid returning and Game 3 saw another Celtics win as they snatched back home-court advantage in the series.
Embiid played well in Game 3, with 30 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal, and 4 blocks but got little to no help. James Harden was brilliant in Game 1 with 45 points but has been a no-show since and had 16 points on 3-14 shooting on Friday. You can count on Embiid to play at this level the rest of the way but if his teammates don’t step up, then the Sixers are going to get eliminated here.
