The Memphis Grizzlies looked like a true title contender before a series of brutal situations derailed their team. Now, in the aftermath of a disappointing first-round exit, changes are afoot and Dillon Brooks is the first one to go.

Speaking on Stephen A.’s world during the first half of Nuggets vs. Suns, Desmond Bane was the first Grizzlies player to speak on the exit of Brooks and how he felt when heard that he will not be back with the team.

“We all got a bunch of love for Dillon,” said Bane. “He’s one of the first guys in, last guys to leave. I don’t think it’s hard to see what type of competitor he is and what type of effort he lays down on the line every night. But things like this happen. It’s just part of the business. There’s no telling if he’ll be back with us or another team in the future, but whatever happens, I wish him the best. I’ve seen him grow as a basketball player, as a teammate, as a father, so whatever happens for him, I’ll be cheering. Hopefully, it’s with us, but if not, I’ll be rooting for him as long we he’s not in the Western Conference.”

It sounds like Bane hasn’t completely ruled out that Brooks might return, but it seems unlikely, given the severity of their message to league insiders.

“The Memphis Grizzlies have informed pending unrestricted free agent Dillon Brooks that he will not be brought back under any circumstances,” league sources tell The Athletic. “After his tumultuous end to the season, Brooks was told about the Grizzlies‘ decision to move on in exit meetings with team officials in recent days, those sources said. Memphis and Brooks discussed in exit meetings that it’s best for both sides to have a fresh start, sources added.”

Which Team Will Dillon Brooks Play For Next Season?

While the level of interest surrounding Brooks is still mostly unknown, there are a few teams with rumored interest in the defensive specialist. Among the potential list of teams include the Houston Rockets, Detroit Pistons, and Miami Heat.

As for the Grizzlies, it makes sense that they’d want to part ways with Dillon, given how much of a liability he was to the team. Now, they can move on and focus on adding some veteran leadership to the locker room.
