Dillon Brooks is going to have an offseason saga behind him after being told that his 6-year tenure with the Memphis Grizzlies will be ending after a first-round playoff exit.

Brooks went from expecting $25 million to likely settle for the mid-level exception, with the Miami Heat currently the favorites to land him.

The Miami Heat are 4/1 favorites to land Brooks, while the Dallas Mavericks are a close cond at 5/1. The Sacramento Kings have 11/2 odds, while the Houston Rockets have 6/1 odds in a fairly open race for Brooks’ signature.

Along with the Heat, teams like the Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, and Houston Rockets are expected to be in the chase for Brooks. He could be a great value-add for a team if his production is tempered by an affordable contract and a smaller role, so many contenders should keep their eye out on Dillon.

Which Team Does Brooks Fit Best?

Players like Brooks are very malleable, as a 3-and-D wing has a place on every NBA team. If Brooks’ shot selection can be improved, there is positive value to be had. Even though he wants to have a bigger role in a team’s offense, he is unlikely to get any winning team wanting to give him that much of an opportunity.

The Heat could use his aggressive mentality and might be able to temper all the extra stuff he does in terms of talking trash. That culture has rebuilt many hardworking, gritty players, and there’s no doubting the grittiness Dillon Brooks plays with.

The Dallas Mavericks are likely a bad fit, given Kyrie Irving openly showed his dislike for Brooks in the season. If the Mavs have to rebuild with Irving leaving, it’s likely they try and tempt Brooks to have some sort of depth on their roster for next season. But most contending teams would like to have someone like Brooks manning their wing.
