Los Angeles Lakers head coach Darvin Ham has come under fire quite a few times this season but the criticism has perhaps been more fierce than ever before at this point.
Following their Game 5 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, Lakers fans were unhappy with Ham’s rotations but former Laker Lamar Odom wants them to stop questioning their coach.
“For all the Laker fans out there — we were in a terrible hole to start the season, right?” Odom said. “Got out of the hole and now we’re 3-2 over the two seed. It’s not a good time to question the captain.”

Ham received a lot of criticism for subbing out Anthony Davis when the Lakers had cut the Grizzlies’ lead down to 75-74 in the third quarter. With Davis out, the Grizzlies went on a 7-0 run and never looked back. Even AD’s return wasn’t able to stop the Memphis onslaught, as that run ballooned to 26-2, which ended the contest.
Sure, subbing Davis out in that situation was probably a mistake but was that the big reason why the Lakers lost? It is hard to say but as Odom stated, they are still in a great position. They are up 3-2 in the series and failing to win in Memphis where the Grizzlies were a league-best 35-6 during the regular season is hardly a disaster. This is a time for the fanbase to get behind the players and the coaching staff as they look to advance to the Conference Semifinals.
Darvin Ham Revealed That Rotations Were The Main Focus During Their Coaches Meeting
Ham knows that he can do a better job on rotations and revealed that a big chunk of his coach’s meeting prior to Game 6 focused on rotations and maximizing their bench unit. The Lakers have struggled when Davis has been on the bench in this series and the coaching staff needs to figure out a way to better manage the non-AD minutes.
Davis has a simple solution for that though, as he said he is willing to play all 48 minutes to win Game 6. It is unlikely that the Lakers will go that route considering his injury history but expect Davis to play heavy minutes as the Lakers look to close out the series.
