Michael Jordan was a menace on and off the court to teammates and opponents alike. He thought he was the best, and he wanted to be even better, so he would often banter with other players and try to make fun of them.

In one iconic moment, Michael Jordan was surrounded by Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Julius Erving when Patrick Ewing passed by. And Jordan couldn’t resist the chance to try and roast him a little about his game.

“Black hole right here,” Jordan said to Ewing as he passed by. “The best center is Dikembe, coming out of Georgetown.” Magic Johnson also got in on the act, saying, “No (Alonzo) Mourning  said he was the best.” To which Jordan replied, “No. Him (Ewing) and Mourning are black holes. Black holes, man.”

Julius Erving then got involved in the conversation, asking about Ewing, “What? He don’t pass?” Michael Jordan continued his trolling, saying, ” No. You know he don’t pass. You up there in New York, you see him… He’s the only guy I know that can be triple-teamed and still think he’s open.”

In the 1990s, Patrick Ewing and the New York Knicks were a strong contender in the Eastern Conference alongside the Chicago Bulls, so it’s no surprise that Jordan was taking shots at Ewing. Looking back at this video and seeing all these legends is incredibly nostalgic for NBA fans, though, five of the greatest players ever are in this.

Michael Jordan Took Pride In Not Letting Patrick Ewing And Other 90s NBA Stars Win A Championship

Michael Jordan made it clear throughout his career that he didn’t just want to win, he wanted to destroy his opponents. In the early 1990s, with the Dream Team, he made it clear that he thought he was the best player in the world and better than the likes of Patrick Ewing and Charles Barkley. He later talked about how he was proud of not letting them win the championship.

“I joke around with my friends about it, Charles and Patrick and all these guys. I take great pride in making sure that they don’t win. I want them to win, but I just don’t want them to win when I’m still playing. I want them to feel like if they won a championship, it doesn’t feel quite the same because they didn’t face Michael Jordan.”

The mentality Michael Jordan had was simply on another level, he believed he was the best and he did everything he could to prove it. He had a lot of respect for his peers and fellow stars, but his single-minded focus on beating them led to some truly iconic moments like the ones mentioned above.
