Jaylen Brown holds the keys to the Boston Celtics’ long-term success in a major way, as his contract decision will be crucial before the summer of 2024.

Paul Pierce called Brown the best two-way player in the NBA and praised him heavily while discussing the Celtics’ star and his possible future.

“Jaylen Brown is probably the best two-way player in the NBA.”

Jaylen Brown has a big pay day in his future, but will that contract be with the Celtics or someone else?

When it comes to two-way players in the NBA, there aren’t many performing at the highest level of the game. The two best two-way players in the NBA right now are arguably Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid. But at his size, nobody defends like Jaylen Brown while having the deep offensive bag many would expect a modern wing to have.

Brown averaged 26.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.1 steals during the regular season and will be a big part of Boston’s playoff run if they deliver on their title aspirations. He is averaging 23.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.8 steals through the four games he’s played in the 2023 playoffs.

Will Jaylen Brown Stay In Boston After 2024?

Brown’s contract is up at the end of the 2023-24 season, though he will be extension eligible from this summer onwards. If Brown is named to an All-NBA team, he will be in line for a supermax contract that could fetch almost $250 million over five years. No other team can offer him money like that on the open market, and Paul Pierce believes that will play a huge role in Brown’s decision.

“Before he makes that decision, you bet I’m going to have a sit-down dinner with him… Does he want $50 million less? $50 million more gonna make you happy. An extra $50 million? You can send me to the bottom of China in those small cities and throw me 300? It’s over.”

Brown is the number two in Boston, but it’s better to be a number two on a team as good as the Celtics as compared to a number one on a team that barely makes the playoffs. It’ll be very interesting to see what Brown decides to do. A championship run with the Celtics will be the goal now, as even that accomplishment could throw some major wrenches in this situation.
