Grizzlies swingman Dillon Brooks was uncharacteristically silent after the Game 3 loss. With an abysmal shooting percentage and boos from the Lakers crowd all night, it seems like the noise finally got the better of the defensive specialist.

Unfortunately for Brooks, it only resulted in more criticism as folks across the association picked up on his broken spirit. Speaking on his show, ‘Pardon the Interruption,’ ESPN NBA analyst Michael Wilbon flamed Brooks for breaking character at such a critical juncture.

“He’s a guy who, a couple of years ago, averaged 25 points per game in the playoffs. Now, he can barely get to 11. His shooting percentage is below ground. So he’s hurting his team because he’s been so bad. He isn’t a defensive specialist only, he can play on the offensive end and be effective… but he’s done nothing. And here’s what’s worse than that: there’s nothing lamer and softer and more gutless than running your mouth and then blaming other people… That’s a gutless act… Right now, Dillon Brooks looks like a chump… You’re scared to stand by your words? Please. Get out.”

Brooks had been saying all kinds of bold and borderline disrespectful things all season long, and this series against the Lakers was no different. At one point, he even called LeBron ‘old’, and it sparked increased intensity from the entire Lakers team.

So while Brooks is still effective as a defender and enforcer, his confidence and shooting struggles can make him a liability to his team, and we’re seeing that play out in full force with the Grizzlies this season.

Dillon Brooks May Not Return To Grizzlies Roster Next Season

Interestingly, the Grizzlies were apparently looking to move off of Brooks earlier this season, but they weren’t able to find a deal to their liking. This summer, word on the street is that Memphis will put Brooks back on the table in an attempt to find him a new home.

“They’ve tried to move on from Dillon Brooks already… I don’t know if Dillon Brooks is on this team after this series,” said Tim MacMahon. “They threw four picks at the Nets trying to get Mikal Bridges. They really weren’t able to get the Raptors in serious conversations, but they would have given up a few picks to get OG Anunoby. They’ve tried to move on from Dillon Brooks already.”

Obviously, the Grizzlies are only focused on getting past the Lakers right now, but we can expect some changes in some form over the summer, no matter how it ends.
