The Golden State Warriors were lucky to pull out a Game 4 victory against the Sacramento Kings after a costly mistake from Stephen Curry almost cost them in the clutch.
The Warriors had no timeouts left when Curry called a timeout, and it led to the Kings scoring 4 quick points to make it a 1-point game. Harrison Barnes missed the shot to win it, but Steve Kerr, who was visibly upset when Stephen Curry called for the timeout, took responsibility for the mistake after the game.
“It’s 100% my fault. I knew we didn’t have any timeouts left,” Steve Kerr said in his postgame press conference. “We took the challenge, and when the challenge was unsuccessful, as were exiting the huddle, that’s on me. I gotta remind the guys that we’re out of timeouts. I didn’t say that and so Steph wasn’t aware. So that’s on me for not making that clear.
“And then on that play, we had all four guys running to the other end and they hit Steph in the backcourt, we didn’t have a trail man. So we gotta handle the pressure better late in the game, but the timeout is 100% on me.”
If the Golden State Warriors had lost that game, Stephen Curry would have been roasted by the media, the fans, and everyone else. It was an unexpected mistake from a team that has been in this situation numerous times, but the Kings failed to capitalize.

Stephen Curry explained himself after the game, accepting that it was a poor decision on his part and that the Warriors got lucky. The margin between victory and defeat is very small in the playoffs, as Steve Kerr pointed out later as well.
Steve Kerr Said Harrison Barnes’ Missed Shot Was Like Andrew Wiggins’ Missed Three-Pointer In Game 1
The Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings have played some incredibly close games in this series. Game 1, which the Kings won, also came down to Andrew Wiggins missing a crucial three-pointer. And Kerr said that’s what the Barnes shot made him think of.
“Yeah, we wanted to get the ball out of Fox’s hands and try to get back to wherever the shooter was going to be, and that turned out to be Harrison,” Kerr said. “He got a good look and it kind of reminded me of the Wiggs’ look in Game 1. These games are coming down to the wire, and we just gotta really finish possessions.”

Klay Thompson also addressed the missed game-winner, and the Warriors know they got away with it in this game. The series now goes back to Sacramento and has become a best of 3. With the way things have been, a 7-game series wouldn’t be a surprise in the slightest.
