Between 1999 and 2015, the San Antonio Spurs won 5 NBA championships. They were one of the most successful teams of the 2000s, dominating every season and winning quite a few championships. The three players remembered most from that era are Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili.
However, there were lots of other players that contributed to San Antonio’s success. The one player that has often criticized the Spurs and Head Coach Gregg Popovich, though, is Stephen Jackson. And he recently went on a tirade about Tony Parker, claiming the French guard got cooked by every opponent in 2003.
“Tony Parker was getting cooked,” Stephen Jackson said. “I always say, I’m talking about, he was cooked by every point guard that year. Speedy Claxton saved us. I don’t know why they don’t talk about Speedy Claxton and give his props bro. Tony Parker was damn near on the bench every 4th quarter cuz Steph was frying him, Jason Kidd was frying him, the whole playoffs.”
Stak reflects on his 2003 championship run with the Spurs.
Let’s just say it was a love/hate relationship.

Stephen Jackson has often felt like his contributions weren’t taken seriously enough by the San Antonio Spurs. He has taken shots at Tony Parker in the past, calling him an awful teammate. Another time he revealed why he would never be a guest on his ‘All The Smoke’ podcast either. He thinks the Spurs would have won more titles without Parker as well, which is wild.
How Did Stephen Jackson And Tony Parker Perform In The 2003 NBA Playoffs
In the 2002-03 season, Stephen Jackson started 24 games for the Spurs in the playoffs, averaging nearly 13 points per game. The wild thing is that Tony Parker averaged nearly 15 points per game, with almost the same efficiency as Jackson. So for him to say this about Parker seems a bit rich overall.
Speedy Claxton averaged 13.6 minutes per game in that series, and he had a little over five points per game. His contribution was significant but not even close to the production the way Jackson tells it. The more he talks about the San Antonio Spurs, the more it becomes obvious that those issues are quite personal.
