Draymond Green has been suspended for Game 3 between the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings for stomping on Domantas Sabonis during Game 2.
Even after Shams Charania reported a suspension was unlikely for Draymond, Joe Dumars has come out and announced that Green will be suspended because of his history of unsportsmanlike conduct.
“Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has been suspended one game without pay for stepping on the chest of Sacramento Kings center Domantas Sabonis, it was announced today by Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations. The suspension was based in part on Green’s history of unsportsmanlike acts.”

The video of the controversial stomp has been replayed by fans around the world repeatedly to ascertain whether this is a fair punishment.

This is going to cause a massive swing in Game 3 as Draymond is the most important cog in the Warriors’ defense. He is also a fantastic play initiator, especially when it comes to his two-man game with Stephen Curry. This also means that Kevon Looney is basically the only true big man on the team for a crucial Game 3.
Did Draymond Green’s Actions Cost The Warriors The Series?
Draymond Green is hot-headed on the court and there’s no getting around it. We’ve seen him kick players in the groin multiple times before in playoff situations, but this stomp seemed worse given Sabonis was on the ground. He was also at fault for wrapping Dray up but he paid the penalty by getting adjudged with a technical foul for his actions.
Green was ejected from Game 2 and will now be suspended for Game 3. Green’s past cannot be argued and fans of the NBA know he has had a pattern of trying to push the envelope with plays like this, but it may have backfired immensely.
Being suspended in the 2016 Finals arguably cost the Warriors the title that year, and it seems his suspension now could cost the Warriors their 9-year streak of not losing in the Western Conference playoffs.
