NBA commissioner Adam Silver provided some new details about the upcoming in-season tournament.

For starters, the edition would look “visually different” according to The Athletic. “The players will be wearing different uniforms,” Silver said. “Maybe the court will look different. You’ll know that it’s not just a regular-season game.”

He also added that the final four teams would play at a neutral site, and even regular season games that run through November would count as Cup games.

Silver further explained that there would be a knockout round, then pool play after the initial stages of the tournament. “That will be the end of the tournament,” he opined.

“We’ll go to a neutral site to do that. This will all take place in November and December of the season.”

Earlier, NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski shed more insight on the tourney. “The in-season tournament could arrive as soon as the 2023-24 season. The event will include pool-play games baked into the regular-season schedule starting in November — with eight teams advancing to a single-elimination tournament in December.”

“The Final Four will be held at a neutral site, with Las Vegas prominent in the discussion,” he said.

This comes as an exciting development and an addition to the NBA schedule and places paramount importance on the regular season games. Not only does it mean players can get their hands on more silverware, but they also get to have fun doing it in a venue like Vegas. Expect the 2023-24 season to be an absolute cracker.

How Does The In-Season Tournament Impact The Players?

For starters, the in-season tournament means another shot for the players to carve a name for themselves and a chance to be part of something exciting. That the NBPA put their heads together with the league to discuss the framework shows they are equally excited about the whole idea.

Adding a November tournament will surely switch things up in a huge way. For the fans, it means another competition in the same likeness as the postseason, which makes for more intense basketball action.

With the upcoming edition becoming the first of its kind, there will be responses in mixed measures, but it could see more players actively participating knowing the stakes.
