It’s been a tough season for Ja Morant, to say the least. Things were going well on the court for most of the season, the Grizzlies even finished the year as the 2nd seed. But Morant’s many off-court controversies have taken a toll on him.

Ja Morant took time away from the Memphis Grizzlies after he was seen flashing a gun on Instagram Live. He was suspended following an investigation and even though he has returned, he doesn’t quite seem like himself. Speaking to The Athletic, Morant revealed that his mental state isn’t the best at the moment.

“The way Morant was leaning in his locker,” The Athletic reported. “The look he shared with teammates as they walked past. The frustration in his voice as he spoke with someone on the phone. The bothered, unsettled breaths he took as part of his meditation practice to cope with stress.

“Morant was suggesting Sunday he was dealing with dual crises of the body and mind. ‘It’s very tough, stressful,’ Morant said. ‘Obviously, I feel like you guys can tell my body language and stuff now. Pretty much taking what happened, I don’t know, I’m numb to everything right now. It’s like, I’m not even surprised. It’s one thing after another.’”

The Memphis Grizzlies lost Game 1 against the Los Angeles Lakers at home, and things aren’t looking too good for them. Ja Morant had 18 points on decent efficiency during the game, but he wasn’t as aggressive as he might have been expected to be. He also picked up a hand injury, and there is a chance he won’t play in Game 2 of the series.

Ja Morant’s Teammates Still Have Faith In Him

Ja Morant has been accused of quite a few things this season, and he has gone on to say that he is not at fault for many of those situations. He has accepted his involvement, but he expects the truth to come out when the time is right.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding him, Morant has seriously worked on himself, according to those around him. Desmond Bane shared his confidence in Morant when he said that he is equipped to handle this adversity. And Ja’s father has gone on record to say that he has seen growth in his son. Hopefully, Morant gets back to his best soon, as he is arguably the most exciting young star in the NBA.
