After a win over the Timberwolves this week, the Los Angeles Lakers are moving on to face the Memphis Grizzlies in their biggest test of the season so far. With Ja Morant back and guys like Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr. having career years, they aren’t going to be an easy out in this postseason.
Speaking on his podcast, however, Warriors star Draymond Green picked against Memphis to come out of the series and explained why the Lakers have what it takes to beat the West’s 2nd seeded team.
“This is a tough matchup for Memphis. I expect LeBron to have the tempo of the game where he wants and not just try to get up and down with that young Memphis team… Ja Morant loves to get to the paint and you got a shot-blocker like AD at the rim. You got Jarred Vanderbilt muckin’ stuff up, LeBron muckin’ stiff up. I probably should be careful with giving someone some bulletin board material because this would be our next opponent when we take care of our business, but I think the Lakers will take this series. I think it’ll be an upset. It will not be easy… but I think the Lakers may take this series.”

Draymond and the Warriors will no doubt be keeping a close eye on how the series plays out, as they’d be their next opponent if they beat the Kings in round one. Of course, when it comes to Memphis, Dray knows first-hand what it’s like to do battle against them, considering they beat the Grizz in the West Semi-Finals a season ago. They will be tough to bear, no doubt.
But the Lakers have LeBron James and the revamped roster built around him at the deadline has proven to be formidable in the small sample size we’ve seen so far. At the very least, it’s enough for Green to be sold on them as a legitimate threat.
Lakers Could Make A Serious Title Run
The path to the Finals will not be easy for L.A., but they have a chance to pull it off if LeBron and AD stay healthy. Of course, if they do get past the Grizzlies, they could face their toughest challenge of all in the next round against the Warriors.
At this point, there’s nothing left to do but watch it all play out, but it’s clear to see that belief in the Lakers is strong heading into the first round.
