Isiah Thomas selected his seven greatest NBA point guards of all time and unsurprisingly added him as part of the list.

When asked about his top five point guards of all time on ‘All The Smoke,’ Thomas had a detailed answer. “When you look at Magic [Johnson] and Oscar [Robertson], that’s a different level right there. So I put them in a different category. Their size and weight give them an advantage over the rest of us.”

He further added: “When you get to small people my size, then I will go with me,  Stephen Curry as a point guard. Then I gotta John Stockton, Chris Paul, and Jason Kidd in there.”

While explaining why he added Curry as part of his list. “Steph [Curry] has won in Golden State, and established a dynasty, but his playing style is different than mine. I scored and assisted, and he scores. So two different ways of impacting, so GS what they did, dynasty. But what is the most impactful and most influential team… That’s played is the Detroit Pistons.”

In his own right, Thomas is spot on when comparing his playing style with Curry. Not only was he a shooter, but he was also an astute playmaker.

Isiah Thomas Says Larry Bird And Magic Johnson Saved The NBA

Isiah Thomas had every reason to add Magic Johnson as one of his all-time guards. The former Los Angeles Lakers legend and his rival, Larry Bird, were perhaps two of the greatest players Thomas went up against, and the Pistons star credited the duo for saving the NBA.

“I think Bird and Magic saved the league, and I think the league took off when the Detroit Pistons showed up on the scene,” said Thomas, on All The Smoke.

“I think Bird and Magic, what the NBA was coming out of in the 70s and how the United States was for a black man in the 70s, and then Bird and Magic being on the stage in the early 80s, coming out of college… Magic coming to LA, and Bird going to Boston. They walked into the culture. They walked into the foundation. They walked into a way of being. They walked into winning.”

Much like his thoughts about Curry, Thomas hit the nail on the head when he stated that two of the greatest players changed the face of the league. Both players have their reasons to be bonafide superstars, and Thomas’ thoughts show why they deserve to be there as the pantheon of greats.
