Mikal Bridges is the NBA’s resident iron man, not having missed a game since high school and continuing that streak in the NBA.

Bridges played 4 seconds in the Brooklyn Nets’ loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, his 83rd game of the season. Bridges is the 43rd player in history to achieve this feat and the first since Josh Smith in 2014-15.

The Nets star has extended his iron man streak in the NBA to 5 seasons and has played 83 games due to a midseason trade after having played more games with the Suns. Nets’ head coach Jacque Vaughn revealed that he instructed Mikal to foul and be subbed out instantly.

“I’m going to bring these other dudes around and I’m going to say it in front of them and I’m going to tell them that ‘you’re basically going to go into the game and you’re going to foul, and then I’m going to get your tail out of the game.’ There you go.”

Mikal did miss a game this season but it wasn’t counted against his record because it was when he was listed as inactive due to the Suns and Nets finalizing the Kevin Durant trade.

Mikal Bridges Restoring The Excitement In Brooklyn

When the Nets traded away Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, everyone expected the team to take a massive step back. While they have struggled to keep up with the top teams in the East, Bridges has been a revelation. Since being traded, he’s averaged 26.1 points and 4.5 rebounds, showing that he has the potential to be one of the best two-way players in the NBA, similar to the development mold of Kawhi Leonard.

With the assets that the Nets have, they can’t tank on their own and convey picks to Houston. Bridges is gonna ensure that the Nets are good every season. They can use their players and assets to build a better roster that can compete now while also grow with Bridges, Nicolas Claxton, and Cam Thomas.
