Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has burst onto the scene this season as an All-Star and an All-NBA caliber player. He wasn’t able to help get a much-needed win for the Oklahoma City Thunder against the Indiana Pacers on Friday night, but he did enjoy a hilarious moment during the game. With the Thunder down in the second quarter, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander‘s shoe came off as he was coming down from a shot attempt. The play carried on though, and while others might have tried to stop it, Shai continued playing with his shoe in his hand. What makes it even more amazing is that he went down the other end, grabbed a rebound, and made a pass to his teammate to keep the attack going.
After the ball organically went out of bounds, Gilgeous-Alexander took a moment to tie up his shoelaces and wear his shoes again. He had 39 points on 50% shooting to go along with 9 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to win the game for the Thunder. Shai deserves to make it to an All-NBA team this season, even though the Thunder might not make the play-in tournament following their big loss against the Pacers.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Is Receiving A Lot Of Love This Season
The young superstar is averaging 31.4 points per game this season, with nearly 5 rebounds and 2 steals per game to go with it. He has been averaging over 5.4 assists per game as well, meaning he will get serious consideration for All-NBA First Team. Gilgeous-Alexander has had two-time MVP Steve Nash say that he might be better than Nash was, which is one of many amazing compliments that have come his way.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will need to help his team clinch a play-in spot if that adulation is to continue though. After losing to the Pacers, his Thunder team is tied at 40 losses with the Dallas Mavericks in 11th place. The Mavericks haven’t looked great themselves, but cannot be counted out as long as they have Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. If Shai doesn’t want to face the disappointment he did with not being named an All-Star starter, the next few games are the time for him to truly shine.
