Patrick Beverley has been a bit of a journeyman since entering the league in 2009. On five teams over 10 seasons, Bev’s current stop has him in Chicago, the former home of Bulls legend Derrick Rose.
And while Beverley is no Rose, his personal connection to the former MVP is apparently pretty strong. In a recent chat with the media, Bev explained his ties to the Chicago legend and detailed Rose’s response when he called him for help.
“You’re talking about a relationship of, like, a brotherhood of me and DRose,” said Neverley, via NBC Sports. “We talk all the time. His friends are my friends. My friends are his friends. ‘I need a car, DRose. I need somewhere to stay. Give me a place. Anything you want, Pat.’ His girl flies in. He’s not there yet. She’s at my house. I’m not even at my house. Our brotherhood is way deeper than basketball. Like, we’re real brothers.”
He even offered Beverley some brilliant advice…
“To come here after him and kind of represent the city the right way and embrace it a little bit more, that’s been my thing. Just embrace it. That’s some advice he gave me, that he says he wished he would’ve done more and that’s embrace the city. People that’s been here before me, I like to listen more than I like to talk. Embracing it is one of the words I heard.”
Sadly, Derrick Rose’s time in the NBA may be coming to an end as his role has diminished greatly since joining the Knicks. Regardless, he will always remain a treasured star of the city.
As for Beverley and the Bulls, they are still fighting to keep their season alive but there is no question that he’s fully-bought in on helping them make a run in the postseason.
Patrick Beverley Used To Sneak Into United Center
Considering Beverley’s previous ties with the Bulls, it’s poetic that he has become a key member of their team. Besides his relationship with Rose, and other Chicago celebrities, Beverley is also a Chicago native who used to sneak into games to watch Michael Jordan play.
“Growing up, me and my friends, we snuck into the United Center,” Beverley said. “‘Hey, hold the door open.’ Sit back there, be up there where the light bulbs are. My games are very different, I’m seeing Michael Jordan he’s this small in person. Looking down at the (floor). Grandma had the TV on the porch. Bulls winning championships. Yeah, it was a vibe.”
It remains to be seen how long the Pat Bev experience will last for the Bulls, but he certainly seems to be making the most of his time there.
Of course, credit has to be given to Derrick Rose as well for making the city seem so inviting.
