Nick Nurse has now been with the Toronto Raptors for 10 seasons, first as an assistant and then as the head coach, and they’ve had a lot of success in that time.

He led the Raptors to their first NBA title in 2019 but things haven’t gone to plan this season and Nurse will take a few weeks to evaluate his situation after the campaign.

“First of all, I think when this season gets done, we’ll evaluate everything, and even personally, I’m gonna take a few weeks to see where I’m at, you know?” Nurse said, via ESPN. “Like you said, where my head’s at. And just see how the relationship with the organization is and everything. It’s been 10 years for me now, which is a pretty good run. I don’t know, over those 10 years we got to be up there in number of wins with anybody in the league. I don’t know even know where that is, but we’ve had a lot of big seasons.”

Only the Golden State Warriors (520) have won more regular season games than the Raptors (487) since Nurse joined the organization, as per StatMuse. This season has been rough though and they find themselves at 38-39. There have been murmurs regarding Nurse leaving after this season, although he did deny it.

“No,” he said. “I’m concentrated on this job, for sure, and this game, essentially. But I think 10 years is a good time to sit back and reflect a little bit. So I think we’re going to do that all when the season ends.”

The Raptors resisted the urge to blow it up before the trade deadline by trading away some key pieces. They instead traded for Jakob Poeltl, and while he has played well, this still seems like a team that is destined for elimination in the first round of the playoffs, if they make it in.

The Raptors Are Interested In Ime Udoka

Should Nurse decide to leave, it would appear he is a head coaching candidate for the Houston Rockets. He would get to work with a very talented group of youngsters and could be the man who can guide them to the top.

As for the Raptors, if Nurse departs then Ime Udoka is of interest to them. Udoka was, of course, suspended for the whole 2022-23 season by the Boston Celtics following his scandal but a lot of teams remain interested in him. It was very unlikely that Udoka would return to the Celtics post his suspension and once Joe Mazzulla was announced as their permanent head coach, his departure was guaranteed. Udoka led the Celtics to the NBA Finals last year and showed he has what it takes to be a top head coach in the league for years to come.
