Big man Anthony Davis is one of the top superstars in the league, and his two-way capabilities have helped the Los Angeles Lakers immensely this season. He was the No. 1 option while LeBron James was dealing with his foot injury, and it is clear that he has the potential to become the No. 1 option full-time.

Recently, Gilbert Arenas said that Anthony Davis needs to step up as the No. 1 for the Los Angeles Lakers, especially with LeBron James returning. He noted that everyone wants to see Anthony Davis take the wheel as the main superstar for the Los Angeles Lakers. This was said in the context of the Lakers’ loss to the Bulls, where Anthony Davis only took 8 shots.

“I don’t really understand some of the new stars. You’re supposed to be dominant. Dominate. Everyone, the league the coaches, even LeBron… everyone wants to see what you’re going to do as the main guy… It’s kind of frustrating… it’s one of those things where he’s refusing to get behind the wheel.”

There is no doubt that there is some truth to what Gilbert Arenas said about Anthony Davis. He needs to be the No. 1 option for the Los Angeles Lakers, as LeBron James is getting older and won’t sustain this sort of play forever. At some point, Anthony Davis has to take over from LeBron James and allow the older superstar to be a No. 2 option.

As of right now, Anthony Davis is averaging 26.1 PPG, 12.4 PPG, and 2.6 APG for the Los Angeles Lakers. He did bounce back in the Lakers’ most recent win against the Bulls, dropping 38 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists for the team, and hopefully, we see him continue to dominate.

LeBron James Says He Doesn’t Have To Worry About Anthony Davis

Anthony Davis was more dominant against the Chicago Bulls in their second matchup, and it is clear that he thrived when given the ball. After the game, LeBron James said that he doesn’t need to worry about Anthony Davis, as the superstar “always plays like that.”

“He always plays like that,” said James on Davis. “Just got to kick him in the a** every now and then. But he always plays like that so I never worry about him.”

It remains to be seen if Anthony Davis’ dominant play will continue. The superstar has the talent to become the best player on the Los Angeles Lakers, and hopefully, he can show that the Los Angeles Lakers are his team.
