NBA Analyst Suggests A Blockbuster Trade: Luka Doncic Joins Zion Williamson On The Pelicans

This proposed trade idea would see the Dallas Mavericks get Brandon Ingram, Herbert Jones, Dyson Daniels, and 6 first-round picks in exchange for Luka Doncic.

It is impossible to imagine Luka Doncic being traded by the Dallas Mavericks. He has been a perennial MVP candidate since his sophomore season and carried them to the Western Conference Finals this season. Yet the team around him has somehow gotten worse despite adding Kyrie Irving. And potential trades are now being discussed, including this blockbuster idea from Heavy.

New Orleans Pelicans receive: Luka Doncic.

Dallas Mavericks receive: Brandon Ingram, Herbert Jones, Dyson Daniels, 2024 1st-Round Pick (via LAL, can pick either 2024 or 2025), 2024 1st-Round Pick (swap option with MIL), 2025 1st-Round Pick, 2026 1st-Round Pick (swap option with MIL), 2027 1st-Round Pick, 2029 1st-Round Pick.

“Any trade for Doncic will be a massive one,” the explanation read. “In this case, Dallas would receive an All-Star, an elite young defender, a top-notch prospect, and six first-round picks. Three of the picks would be unprotected Pelicans picks, and the other three would be swap options with the Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks.

“For the Pelicans, this would secure a Doncic-Zion Williamson tandem moving forward. They would also still have CJ McCollum, Jonas Valanciunas, Naji Marshall, Trey Murphy III, and Jose Alvarado to fill out the rotation.”

While the offer seems lucrative, players like Doncic are rarely ever traded in their prime. By himself, Luka Doncic is a top offense in the league, and the Mavericks would likely never trade him. But considering how unhappy he has looked in recent times and the fact that the Mavericks might miss the playoffs this season, there should be a level of concern that he might want out.

Luka Doncic And Zion Williamson Together Would Be Unstoppable

Luka Doncic and Zion Williamson are two of the brightest young stars in the league. Luka has averaged 27.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 8 assists per game for his career. And while Zion hasn’t played as much as people might have hoped, he has also averaged 25.8 points per game in his career so far. The two together would be an unstoppable offensive force.

They are also incredibly close in age, so if the trade went through and Zion figured out how to stay healthy, they could dominate for a decade. Those are big ifs, of course, but it’s an exciting prospect to imagine for basketball fans. Such a trade going through is quite unlikely, Doncic is the franchise for the Mavericks right now, but they will need to worry about being able to keep him if they don’t improve quickly.
