Making free throws seems simple, in principle, but it’s never as easy as it looks. The biggest NBA stars have missed clutch free throws when it mattered the most, so what chance do common people have?
Social media celebrity Big Daws recently made a video in which he offered strangers $1,000 if they could make a free throw. Predictably, a lot of them missed, but some of them made it, leading to some incredible reactions.
One man, who made a shot with a bounce, was incredibly hyped, saying, “Did you see that bounce? Did you see that shooter’s bounce? You guys just made my life, man. Rent is paid, baby! Rent is paid!”
The video seemed to be shot in Phoenix, as there were fair few people in Suns jerseys. But they couldn’t all channel Devin Booker, as most of the participants ended up missing. One young kid made his shot and hilariously ran away after getting his $1,000 in cash.
A random girl outside of the restaurant also made her shot, offering Big Daws a hug after getting the money. She also went on to reveal that she used to play basketball, which makes it even better that she made the shot.
The best players to have ever played the game haven’t always been top free-throw shooters. Shaquille O’Neal was bad enough at it that teams forcibly fouled him to send him to the line. LeBron James has a career free-throw percentage of 73.5% which goes to show how tough it can be.
Fans Reacted To The Video Of Strangers Getting $1,000 For Making A Free Throw
As with normal basketball, fans who saw the video thought they would have made the shots if it was up to them. Here’s a look at some of the reactions to the video.
“Man I would have made that free throw, and I could really use $1,000 as well, wish it was me!” wrote one fan in the comments.
Another was more supportive of everyone, saying, “This was just amazing. I was rooting for all of them. They did fantastically. Wish I was there though.”
The kid who made his free throw had a fan, with one person writing, “Loved seeing the little man make his shot! Wonder what he’ll do with all that cash though, haha!”
And Big Daws got his props too: “Sometimes you need someone just to tell you they believe in you as Big Daws did for some of the ladies who won the shot. Love him!”
There’s not an NBA fan in the world that would say they wouldn’t make the free throw in that situation, but it’s tougher than it looks. So the next time someone’s favorite player misses a free throw, maybe they’ll cut them some more slack than they normally would.
