The Los Angeles Lakers pulled off a strong win over the Phoenix Suns, walking out of the Crypto.com arena 111-122 winners on the night.

Anthony Davis led the Lakers in scoring with 27 points, scoring 20 in the second half. Darvin Ham explained why AD went off in the second half to close the win out for LA.

“His dumba*s coach started calling more plays for him. He and I have talked and I told him I will force feed him, just be aggressive going to the rim. He did that. He had a swagger about him, he wasn’t settling. He’s one of the best mid-range shooters I have been around. More than capable of knocking down 3s but you have to love living in the paint tonight. That’s the AD we need.”

The Lakers have been successful in games where AD isn’t playing at the highest level, but it’s definitely an easier process when AD is also dominating. It helped the Lakers put away a challenging team like the Suns, especially when the Suns were short-handed with no Kevin Durant and Deandre Ayton.

The Push For The 6th Seed Continues

The Lakers are 36-37, tied for the 9th seed with the Dallas Mavericks. They are just 1.5 games behind the Golden State Warriors who are currently the 6th seed. The Lakers own the season tiebreaker over the Warriors, so even matching their record will be a massive boost for them.

The fifth-seeded Clippers are also at risk of dropping out after Paul George suffered a knee injury that is going to sideline him for the rest of the regular season. The Oklahoma City Thunder are also in the mix and the Lakers face them on Friday in one of their most important games of the final stretch. The Lakers will also go up against the Clippers at the end of the season, so their dream for the 6th seed is very much alive.

Depending on when LeBron James returns and whether Austin Reaves can continue his current form, the Lakers are looking like a possible threat in the West.
