The 2018 case of the murder of Richard Jefferson Sr., the father of former NBA player Richard Jefferson, remains unsolved to this day.
Now, the L.A. Country Sheriff’s Department is hoping that the public can help them solve the case and has offered a $20,000 reward to anyone who has any information on the incident.
“Based on the information, it appears Mr. Jefferson was an innocent bystander killed in a senseless act of violence,” Lt. Patricia Thomas said at the press conference. “Investigators believe the suspect vehicle was occupied by gang members who mistakenly thought Mr. Jefferson and other members were gang members. Neither Mr. Jefferson nor any of the other males had ever been involved in gangs. Anyone with information is urged to contact Homicide Bureau or Crime Stoppers anonymously.”

On the 19th of September, Jefferson Sr. was speaking to his neighbors when he and they were shot at by a gang. The police have been unable to track down the culprits and are adamant that there are people out there who can give them some information on it, and hopefully, the monetary reward might convince someone to speak up on the matter.
Richard Jefferson Paid Tribute To His Father When He Retired
Jefferson’s parents split when he was young, and he grew up with his mother in Glendale, Arizona, while his father lived in California. Just a few years before this tragic incident, Jefferson had gotten closer to his father, and his death was a big blow. When he announced his retirement from the NBA in 2018, Jefferson paid tribute to his father.
You can see just how much he loved him, and Jefferson Sr. would have definitely been incredibly proud of his son too. Jefferson would spend 17 seasons in the NBA, during which he averaged 12.6 PPG, 4.0 RPG, and 2.0 APG. He would also win an NBA championship in 2016 with the Cleveland Cavaliers and has now made a great transition into the sports media world.
