As the greatest young prospect since LeBron James, it’s no surprise that Victor Wembanyama is getting all the hype leading up to the upcoming draft.

For San Antonio, where the Spurs have become the second-worst team in the West, the anticipation for Wemby has reached brand-new heights as shown by a recent mural displayed proudly in downtown.

“At 7’3″ ish rocking offense and defense!! He’s looking to be a solid franchise player!! What are your thoughts?? Think he’ll be wearing a @spurs jersey??” wrote Nik Soupe on Instagram.

As the basketball world debates things like the MVP and biggest Finals contenders, Vicyor Wembanyama is quietly preparing to take over the NBA and he has all the tools he needs to do it.

Besides a ridiculous height, wingspan, and naturally talent, Victor also has the work ethic and mentality of a reliable franchise star, and his arrival is bound to shape the NBA for years to come.

Should The Spurs Tank For Victor Wembanyama?

The Spurs are usually a very proud and prestigious organization but they have done little to hide their intentions this season. After struggling this season, the team committed to trading their remaining veterans to hoard future assets. In the process, it pushed the SPurs further and further down the standings.

Now, at 18-52 on the season, the organization has pushed itself into the lead for the Wemby sweepstakes. No matter how you feel about tanking, teams will get rewarded for it this season with the prospect of a lifetime.

“Nah, teams have been tanking for a minute. What, you’re going to force them to be competitive? I don’t see a problem with it, because each year there’s only a few teams that can win it anyway. So the rest of the league is trying to figure out where they are,” said Kevin Durant. “And that’s pretty smart business if you’re a team and you know you’re not going to be a playoff team or play-in team, you might as well try to play for [the No. 1 pick]. You might as well try to get some of the guys who probably won’t get real rotation minutes if you have a good team, get them some reps and maybe those guys can change their lives as well.”

If Victor even lives up to half of his potential, he could be a truly league-altering player and the Spurs could find their situation totally different.

Until then, we’ll just have to wait and see how it all plays out.
