The Los Angeles Lakers tried to create a superteam in the NBA when they traded for Russell Westbrook and paired him up with the dynamic duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Unfortunately, the experiment backfired for the Lakers, and they finally ended up trading Russell Westbrook to the Utah Jazz around the NBA trade deadline. Westbrook was never a good fit for the Lakers, and an anonymous NBA executive believes it was somewhat LeBron James and Anthony Davis’ fault for not doing enough research about Brodie.

“Like everybody who plays with him does (laughs),” a Western Conference executive told Heavy Sports. “Fun guy to watch until you are his teammate. Kevin Durant, Paul George, James Harden – they will all tell you the same thing. Good guy, works hard but just stubborn as hell and won’t change his approach. What is amazing is that AD and LeBron thought they would get him to the Lakers and change him. They never asked his old teammates if that was a good idea or what.”

The executive didn’t question Westbrook’s work ethic. Instead, he called out Westbrook’s stubborn nature, which was never bound to work with two superstars like LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

It was reported that LBJ and AD were the two major driving factors behind the Lakers’ decision to onboard Westbrook. Ultimately, the move didn’t work, and now the trio has broken up.

The Los Angeles Lakers Are Playing Well Without Russell Westbrook

Prior to getting traded, Russell Westbrook had slowly but surely managed to find a good role with the Lakers. He was leading the team off the bench and honestly succeeding in it as well.

So when the former NBA MVP was traded, many wondered if it was the right decision. Well, a couple of weeks down the line, the Lakers have managed to improve their record to 34-36 and currently sit in the 9th spot in the Western Conference. They are certainly having more fun without Brodie on the roster.

As for Westbrook, he negotiated a buyout with the Jazz and ended up joining the Los Angeles Clippers. Sure, it took him some time in getting adjusted to his new team, but he is helping the Clippers win games as well. The Clippers are currently on a 4-game winning streak.

All things considered, parting ways turned out to be the best thing for Russell Westbrook and the Lakers.
