It has been quite the weird season for the Golden State Warriors so far. The defending champions have been their usual dominant self at home, but have been atrocious on the road.
Their latest road defeat was against the short-handed Memphis Grizzlies and Stephen A. Smith is losing faith that they can defend their crown.
“I don’t think they will,” Smith said on NBA Countdown when asked about the Warriors defending their title. “I gotta acknowledge I’m getting to a point where I’m ready to give up on the Golden State Warriors. I don’t recognize this team when they’re on the road. The other day they gave up 48 points in the first quarter. 48 points to the Memphis Grizzlies without Ja Morant, 32 points in the fourth quarter… It’s like the second they leave the Bay Area, they forget how to play basketball, at least the quality of basketball we have grown accustomed to seeing.”

The loss to the Grizzles dropped the Warriors to 7-26 on the road and they are now tied for the third-worst road record in the NBA. It is hard to see how a team so bad away from home can potentially go and win at least one road playoff game in every series.
Then again, that is something that the Warriors have done in each of their last 27 playoff series, so maybe they will flip the switch in the postseason. Time will tell though but the fact that they keep losing on the road this deep into the season is worrying.
Steve Kerr Believes The Warriors Can Beat Anyone If They Are Healthy
One of the reasons for the Warriors’ struggles this season is injuries, with Stephen Curry and Andrew Wiggins missing a significant amount of time. Wiggins remains absent now due to a personal issue, with the team hoping he can return this season.
If the Warriors have everyone ready to go, then head coach Steve Kerr believes they can beat anybody in the league, as they proved last year. The Warriors can certainly beat anybody at home, as they got the better of the red-hot Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night. If they can just figure out that winning formula on the road, then the rest of the league is in trouble.
