The Denver Nuggets were supposed to stroll to victory when they took on the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night.

Instead, it ended up being a back-and-forth contest and tempers flared mid-way through the third quarter after Michael Porter Jr. viciously dunked on Zach Collins.

Porter taunted Collins after the dunk, which led to the big man charging up to him and getting in his face. Porter then grabbed Collins’ neck before the two were separated by their teammates. They both ended up getting double technicals and were ejected from the game. Porter might find himself in a bit more trouble with the NBA because of the neck grab and it wouldn’t be too shocking if he gets a bigger fine or maybe even a suspension. There have been quite a few altercations recently and the league definitely doesn’t want this to become a nightly occurrence.

It was a quiet night prior to the ejection for Porter, who is averaging 17.2 PPG this season, as he only had 7 points and Collins was arguably the bigger loss between the two, as he had 10 points and 9 rebounds. The Spurs managed to cope with his exit, however, and came away with a shocking 128-120 win.

What Has Happened To The Denver Nuggets?

The Nuggets were cruising along after beating the Toronto Raptors on Monday but they have now lost two in a row after that. They were blown out by the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday prior to this loss and are suddenly looking a bit shaky. This was a team that their former head coach George Karl felt could go down as the best in franchise history but they’ve hit somewhat of a roadblock here.

It would just strengthen the belief that is growing these days that there are a few teams in the Western Conference that can take down Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets. Jalen Rose picked the Golden State Warriors to beat them while Colin Cowherd said that if the Los Angeles Lakers are healthy, they would get the better of the Nuggets.
