Giannis Antetokounmpo didn’t have the same journey as many NBA superstars, but he never complained about that.

Still, Giannis would have liked to go to college, and he recently revealed the one school that tried to get him.

“When I was 15, I was “highly recruited” by Old Dominion. That was my only offer,” Antetokounmpo said.

Giannis explained that the college experience was one he would have loved to live, but things didn’t work that way for him. Instead, he took a different yet valid route to the NBA, and it’s fair to say it was all worth it.

“You see all these college players when they make it to the league, they talk about their experience and how fun it was, and how different the environment was for them,” Antetokounmpo said, via USA Today. “I came to the NBA when I was 18. I didn’t have the opportunity to experience being around classmates: Lift weights in the morning, go to class, then go to practice, and see all the fans at the game. I did not have the chance to experience that. I came immediately here. So I would definitely have wanted to go to college and have that experience.”

Before making it to the NBA, Giannis played pro basketball in Greece, where he caught the attention of many scouts around the league. Things worked out for him, as the Milwaukee Bucks selected him 15th overall in the 2013 NBA Draft.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Could Win His 3rd MVP Award This Season

Ever since that moment, Giannis started to get better every season, and now he’s one of the top players in the NBA. Many consider him the best player in the entire association, and his 2022-23 campaign is the biggest proof of that.

In 52 games this season, Giannis averages 31.2 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 5.5 assists for the Bucks. He’s shooting 53.9% from the field and 65.4% from the free-throw line.

Giannis is still in the race for the 2023 MVP race, but other players like Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid are also trying to win the coveted award. Giannis has led the Milwaukee Bucks to the No. 1 spot in the Eastern Conference, posting the best record in the league and having an impressive run.

Giannis has come a long way, and he’s ready to keep collecting accolades and awards. The most important thing for him is to win titles, but the player knows that he has the talent to win individual awards too.
