The Los Angeles Lakers have been very unfortunate when it comes to dealing with injuries this season. They have suffered numerous blows to the team when they need their entire roster to be at its 100%.

The biggest blow to the Lakers was the news about LeBron James’ foot injury that’ll reportedly keep him out of action for the remainder of the regular season. During LeBron’s absence, most of the burden has fallen on the shoulders of Anthony Davis. NBA analyst Shannon Sharpe shared his doubts about the Lakers’ chances of winning the west with just one superstar.

“No team is a threat with just one superstar,” Sharpe said. “What we see in the NBA currently are teams are trying to get at least two. Some teams are trying to get three. We don’t know if and when LeBron is coming back. What if during the evaluation, it’s not gotten any better? Is LeBron coming back [then]? No.”

Sharpe’s assessment of the Lakers wasn’t completely negative, as he did talk about a scenario where the team can at least reach the Western Conference Finals.

“If you tell me LeBron is coming back and he’s 85-90%, and Anthony Davis is going to play like this, they’ll come out of the West. It will be them and Phoenix in the Western Conference finals.”

The competition in the NBA is currently at an all-time high. There are genuinely multiple teams with multiple superstars that can win the NBA Championship this season.

This is true for both conferences. As for the West, the Lakers may have a shot at reaching the Western Conference Finals, but they will require AD and LBJ at their sparkling best to do so.

Anthony Davis Is Carrying The Lakers In The Absence Of LeBron James

LeBron James‘ injury situation is not a small deal for the Los Angeles Lakers. Fortunately for them, Anthony Davis has really stepped up his game during these tough times.

The most recent example of it was Davis’ sensational performance in the Lakers’ crucial win against the Memphis Grizzlies. AD recorded 30 points, 22 rebounds, and 3 assists for the Purple and Gold.

While most loved Davis’ insane performance against the Grizzlies, the biggest question around AD is whether or not he will be able to maintain playing at this level until LeBron returns to the roster.

Davis has always been injury prone, and he is currently playing heavy minutes to help the Lakers stay afloat in the West.
