The Ja Morant gun incident is something that has caused a lot of buzz in the news. There are a lot of unknowns about the situation as of now, and speculation is rampant about what will end up happening with the point guard.
Shams Charania has recently revealed that the Memphis Grizzlies had a players-only meeting to address off-court discipline on the road shortly before Morant’s gun incident. It was led by veteran Steven Adams, and players believed that Adams was directing the criticism and Ja Morant.
“There was a players-only meeting where Steven Adams, their veteran center, he spoke out about how the team needs to show better discipline on the road, how they need to stay away from going out… Those in the room, when Steven Adams spoke out, they knew exactly who he was directing this to. It was no one other than Ja Morant. Clearly, Ja Morant still went out in the early hours of Saturday, that video was posted with the gun…”

There is no doubt that this is a concerning update. Ja Morant clearly ignored an experienced veteran’s attempt to help him, and unfortunately, his going on Instagram Live and posing with a gun has had a lot of consequences for him.
This year, Ja Morant has put up 27.1 PPG, 6.0 RPG, and 8.2 APG for the Memphis Grizzlies. There is no question that he was having a stellar year, and Grizzlies fans will hope that he can return to the court sooner rather than later, though that obviously may not end up happening due to the nature of this incident.
Ja Morant Could Potentially Face Legal Consequences For This Incident
Aside from any punishment that the Memphis Grizzlies or the NBA could give him, Ja Morant could also face some legal punishment. It was previously revealed that this might be due to his status as an “out-of-state resident” who had “possession of a gun.”
“We will see how the Ja Morant situation develops,” said Bobby Marks. “There are likely legal consequences because he is an out-of-state resident viewed in possession of a gun.”
This is definitely unfortunate news for Ja Morant. The legal aspect of things could also explain why as of right now, there is no timetable for the point guard’s return to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Hopefully, we see Ja Morant avoid this sort of behavior in the future. He has far too much to lose to be caught up in incidents like this, and this needs to be the last time he does something like this.
