Damian Lillard shocked the NBA today after he requested a trade away from the Portland Trail Blazers. Lillard wasn’t expected to do this after not saying anything following the 2023 NBA Draft.

He’s decided he’s seen enough and is leaving the Portland Trail Blazers. Moreover, he reportedly informed the team that he wants to be traded to the Miami Heat. This appears to be a direct path for Lillard, but more teams could sign their names on the list of suitors for his services. Adrian Wojnarowski names three teams with interest in the player.

“The Heat, Clippers and 76ers are three teams that will have interest in exploring trades for Lillard, sources tell ESPN. The Blazers are expected to value deals that would bring them back young players and draft assets.”

These are very good options for Lillard, starting with the Heat, a hustling team that can make the most of their opportunity, as they showed in the 2023 playoffs. The Clippers already have Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, and adding Lillard would make them a superteam.

The Sixers have Joel Embiid and are on the verge to trade James Harden, so a move for Lillard makes a lot of sense.

Added to these three, Ramona Shelburne reports that Lillard has ‘deep respect’ for the San Antonio Spurs.

Seeing him alongside Victor Wembanyama would be great, but they’re not on the same page right now, and Wemby will just start his NBA career, meaning Lillard won’t want to share touches with a player developing his game.

Damian Lillard Has Made The Heat His Preferred Destination

This leaves the Heat as the best destination for Dame. He’s been reportedly in contact with some Heat players recently, as this move was brewing behind the scenes. Now, we have to wait to see how Miami can pull this off and land a player that will make them a top contender in the Eastern Conference.
