The Damian Lillard saga remains a hot topic around the league, although fans are getting tired of reading the same rumors day in and day out. The Portland Trail Blazers superstar still has a decision to make, but many people have already lost interest in whatever he has to say.
Kevin Garnett, a former NBA player who was in a similar position during his active days, recently discussed the Lillard situation, claiming that he must leave the Blazers to reach new heights, share touches with other players, and be pushed to new levels.
“[Damian Lillard’s] value is a lot greater to me than where he’s at now… It’s that prideful, ‘I’ve done this work, I made this house, I built it.’ It’s time to leave this house and go build another one.”
KG offered his perspective for Dame on teaming up with other great players.

Garnett explains that he had the same mentality Lillard has right now, but he couldn’t see at the time that his pride was getting in the way of him joining forces with other NBA legends. He then mentioned how great it was to play and learn from Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo, Kendrick Perkins, and even Rasheed Wallace.
KG also won a championship and elevated his game during his time with the Boston Celtics, becoming a legend of the team. He still gave his everything to the Minnesota Timberwolves and was close to leading them to the 2004 NBA Finals before the Los Angeles Lakers got in their way.
After joining the Celtics, things changed for him, and his career was a lot better than it would have been if he stayed with the Timberwolves. Lillard has stated that his legacy won’t be affected by not winning a championship but still admits that many fans will think differently.
Damian Lillard Is Still Patient With The Portland Trail Blazers
Despite all the failures and the inability of his team to assemble a competitive squad, Damian Lillard remains loyal to the Blazers. They have three incredible young players to build around, Scoot Henderson, Anfernee Simons, and Shaedon Sharpe, but Lillard doesn’t want to keep developing young players.
He’s keen to see win-now moves, and the Blazers are apparently doing everything to surround him with the right type of talent. Lillard is taking care of that by himself, reportedly meeting with Draymond Green at a restaurant this week.
Whatever the outcome of this situation is, it looks like Dame’s days with the Blazers are numbered, and they will only need to figure out if it’s now, ahead of the trade deadline, or next summer.
