Kevin Durant Doesn’t Regret Signing A $194 Million Extension With The Nets And Requesting A Trade

Kevin Durant recently said he has no regrets about signing a massive $194 million extension with the Brooklyn Nets and then requesting a trade and leaving.

Kevin Durant is a Phoenix Sun now, and he excellently started with his new team, leading them to a victory on his debut. Durant being traded was the biggest shock of the deadline, but the former MVP isn’t looking backward.

Kevin Durant signed a 4-year, $194 million contract extension with the Brooklyn Nets in 2021. But then he immediately requested a trade at the end of the 2021-22 season. And he has said in a recent interview with Yahoo Sports that he doesn’t regret it at all.

“I don’t regret nothing. Nothing I do in my life I regret,” Durant said. “[Not] signing an extension worth that much money?”

Kevin Durant has a point, there’s arguably no human being on this planet that would turn down a contract of that nature. And while he has been criticized endlessly for his move to the Suns, with some fans making memes about it, the fact remains that he finds himself in a winning situation once more.

His departure from the Brooklyn Nets might not be something that everyone approves of, but it’s not like the team was in great shape. The Big 3 era was a massive failure for the Nets, and when thinking about the situation, it’s easy to understand why Durant wanted to leave.

Kevin Durant Bluntly Explained Why He Requested A Trade From The Nets Again

The Brooklyn Nets looked like they might finally have figured out a winning formula this season. But all that got tossed out of the window when Kyrie Irving requested a trade. Kevin Durant was already less than enamored with Ben Simmons. And he elaborated on his reason behind asking to leave again in the same interview.

“I was thinking about who’s in the building, then when s*** started happening. We’re not playing well. KI requested a trade. It felt like a lot of s*** wasn’t happening for us. But I was locked in. I felt like my play showed people that I was committed to the organization.

“I looked up, like what am I gonna do? I don’t know who’s gonna be my teammates, so I was a little nervous with that happening. And we were able to work something out.”

While Kevin Durant is validly criticized for his move to the Golden State Warriors, no one can say that he didn’t try to make it work for the Brooklyn Nets. In any case, he is on the Phoenix Suns now, and with the way things are shaping up, looks set to lead them to a deep playoff run this season.
